Q1: What is the promotion process in the Black Belt System?

A:

  1. Purchase the Annual Membership ($120)
  2. Choose your starting level (Sankyu or Kyukyu) and select either the Monthly Plan or One-time Payment Plan
  3. Train techniques by following the instructional videos
  4. Pass the knowledge tests
  5. Purchase the Video Evaluation ($200) ā€»Not required for Monthly Plan users
  6. Submit your video
  7. Receive your evaluation results

Re-evaluation costs $100.

Q2: I already have a rank in Judo or BJJ. Where should I start?

A:
If you already hold a rank in Judo or BJJ, we recommend starting from Sankyu, where you can focus on practical Gatame Kosen techniques.

Q3: Can I start even if I have no rank in Judo or BJJ?

A:
Yes. If you have no prior rank, we recommend starting from Kyukyu, which is designed for beginners to build a solid foundation.

Q4: Can I move to the next level immediately after passing?

A:

  • Monthly Plan:
    Kyukyuā€“Nanakyu ā†’ every 3 months
    Rokukyu and above ā†’ every 6 months
  • One-time Payment Plan:
    You can purchase and proceed to the next level immediately after passing.

Q5: Which should I choose, Monthly Plan or One-time Payment Plan?

A:

  • Monthly Plan:
    Provides a structured timeline to ensure proper skill development
  • One-time Payment Plan:
    Allows you to progress at your own pace and potentially advance faster

In addition, the Monthly Plan is more cost-effective overall.
If you start from Kyukyu and continue to Shodan, you can save up to $1,090 compared to the One-time plan.

Q6: What do I get with the Annual Membership?

Q7: Is Gatame Kosen affiliated with IJF or Kodokan?

No. Gatame Kosen Online is an independent service and is not affiliated with any organization.
We issue our own Gatame Kosen Black Belt certification.

Q8: What rank is required to become eligible for Affiliation?

A:
You need to achieve Shodan to become eligible for Affiliation and gain the right to teach this system.

Q9: Can I cancel the Monthly Plan anytime?

A:
Yes. You can cancel your Monthly Plan or Annual Membership anytime.
